Fairmount, Indiana, a town with a population of approximately 2,500, is located about one hour north of Indianapolis. This quiet community possesses a rich history and a number of notable icons that called it home. The Museum has a vast collection of not only town history, but the worlds largest collection of James Dean's personal belongings that are on loan from Dean's family. From his birth to death his life is documented through schoolwork, artwork, photographs, clothing, awards, movie props and more. The collection even includes two motorcycles that were owned by Dean. Another famous resident, Jim Davis, perhaps got the idea for Garfield while growing up on a farm near Fairmount with 25 cats. The Jim Davis display honors his awards, achievements and of course Garfield. The Museum, which is ran by a volunteer board and staff, accepts donations for admission. Plan your visit today!
